These noble dogs are a cross between Saint Bernards, Great Pyranese, and Newfoundlands. Only a few Leonbergers survived World War II, and the dogs are still rare in the United States. Leonbergers are easygoing and sociable. They need regular exercise. They're friendly with strangers and most pets, but they can be aggressive with other dogs. Height: Males: 29" - 32"; Females: 26" - 30" Weight: Males: 110 - 150 pounds; Females: 90 - 120 pounds Coat: Slightly wavy with a dense undercoat. Brush twice a week. Ears hang down. Colors: Lion-colored: golden yellow to reddish brown. Usually with a dark mask or the face. Eyes are brown; nose is black.Special Considerations: These are powerful dogs. A Leonberger from a poor bloodline might be aggressive. Buy only from a reputable breeder. |
