Great Danes are giant dogs that are gentle and easygoing. Since Danes are so big, they must have daily exercise. They're sometimes reserved with strangers, but good with other animals. Some Danes are aggressive with other dogs. Although they like kids, Danes are too big for young children. They need professional obedience training. Great Danes are working dogs. In general, working dogs pull sleds and carts, guard homes, and serve in the military. Because these dogs are intelligent and capable of learning anything, they make excellent companions. Their very size can make them difficult to control, so they must be trained by a competent professional. Most working dogs are pack dogs, so they're often aggressive with strange dogs and other pets. Origin: Germany Height: Males: at least 30"; Females: at least 28" Weight: 120 to 150 pounds Coat: Hard and short. Brush occasionally. Tail hangs down; ears may be cropped or left to hang down. Nose is black; nose is sometimes spotted in harlequins. Special Consideration: Great Danes live about 10 years. |
