King Charles are sweet, gentle dogs that love to play. They adapt well to city life if walked frequently. They get along well with strangers, children, and other pets. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy breed. Toy breeds are small companion dogs that were originally bred as pets for wealthy, cultured families. Today, toys are the perfect apartment dogs, since they require little, if any, outdoor exercise. Despite their small size, many toys are excellent watchdogs. Most get along fine with children, although they'll snap if teased or startled. Some breeds are jealous of other pets. Longhaired toys need to be brushed frequently, and some breeds need to be professionally groomed every few months. Origin: England Height: 12" - 13" Weight: 13 - 18 pounds Coat: Soft and silky with longer hair on the ears, chest, stomach, legs and tail. Brush every other day. Ears and tail hang down. Colors: Four color varieties are available: The Blenheim is white with red markings; the Ruby is solid red; The Tricolor is white with black and red markings; and the Black and Tan is mostly black with red markings. Special Consideration: Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are highly prone to heart disease. |
