Originally from England, where he was selectively bred for his strength in the dogfight pits. Powerfully built, muscular, symmetrical and active, with a keen determined and intelligent expression, the Bull Terrier is indeed an impressive sight. He is still inherently aggressive towards other dogs and therefore is usually best suited to being the only dog in the household. He is never the less an exceedingly friendly dog, with a sweet disposition and thrives on affection. With people, he is the kindest of dogs and is famous for his soft, benevolent attitude. Country of Origin: Great Britain Height: 15 to 22 inches Weight: 35-80 pounds Coat: Hard and short Colors: The Bull Terrier comes in either white (solid or mostly white with a few colored patches on its head), or colored. Brindle, black-and-tan, fawn is prefered for colored dogs. Most colored dogs have white markings on their heads, chest, neck, feet, and tail tip. Eyes are dark; nose is black.(Sometimes puppies have pink noses; however, their noses darken with age.) Special Consideration:Being such a powerful dog, the Bull Terrier requires firm training, although he is extremely stubborn and may not immediatelyrespond to his owner's commands. He also needs a good deal of exercise which should always be onlead in public areas due tohis tendency to fight with other dogs. Having a strong constitution, he can take the rough with the smooth in life. He is very resilient, for example, standing extremes of heat very well. |
