Boxers are good-natured, playful dogs with expressive faces. Some breeders say Boxers display their emotions through their facial expressions much the way people do. Boxers like games and lots of human contact. Boxers are usually timid and suspicious around strangers, and they're sometimes aggressive with other dogs. Boxers are working dogs. In general, working dogs pull sleds and carts, guard homes, and serve in the military. Because these dogs are intelligent and capable of learning almost anything, they make excellent companions. Their very size can make them difficult to control, so they must be trained by a competent professional. Most working dogs are pack dogs, so they're often aggressive with strange dogs and other pets. Origin: Germany Height: 21" - 25" Weight: 60 to 67 pounds Coat: Hard and short. Brush occasionally. Tail is docked, and ears are cropped. Color: Fawn, mahogany brown, or brindle. White markings are desirable on the face, chest, neck, and feet. Muzzle is also acceptable. Eyes are dark brown; nose is black. Special Considerations: Boxers are a short-lived breed, about 10 years is average. Because of their pushed in faces, Boxers are susceptible to breathing problems and heatstroke, particularly in hot, stuffy, conditions. |
