The American Cocker Spaniel is a beautiful, medium-sized dog. Like all spaniels, the American Cocker makes a good pet if it receives obedience training and daily exercise. The American Cocker Spaniel is easy to train, although it's sometimes hard to housebreak. This breed adjusts well to city life if exercised daily. American Cocker Spaniels are sporting dogs. In general, sporting dogs are active and alert and require daily exercise. Because they have superior instincts in the water and woods, sporting dogs are often used for hunting. If exercised and properly trained, most sporting dogs make excellent pets. However, some of these dogs like to bark and whine a lot, so they're not suited for apartment life. Height: 13.5" - 15.5" Weight: 24-28 pounds Coat: Silky, longer hair on chest, stomach, legs, and tail. Tail is docked. Colors: Solid buff, solid black, particolor, tricolor, and other colors. Eyes are brown or hazel, depending on coat color. Nose is black or brown.Special Consideration:The Cocker Spaniel is the most popular breed in the United States. Too many dogs have been inbred to meet the demand for puppies. Be very careful and buy only from very reputable breeders. A poorly bred puppy could have major behavioral and health problems. |
